When I listen to this song today I remember the late spring of 2015. I was trying to figure out my next moves in life. I recorded about 80% of this song with a pad of paper in hand, at the mic, writing each line as I sung it. I let the lyrics come in a stream of consciousness, allowing my only guidance to be the word “waves”.
As a backdrop to the main vocal takes, I dug deep into my falsetto to create swirling atmospheres. The idea behind the lyrics is that we let so many things which occur in our life to live in the unconscious part of our mind. I felt as though the painted vocal streaks against the sharp melodies in the forefront could help bring this idea out into the music through a dichotomy which mimics our unconscious against conscious thoughts, respectively.
